THE COLLEGE ESSAY
During the first quarter after writing my learning plans I began my first English assignment which was to write my college essay. As I planned out this writing project I decided to complete a draft per week throughout the month of October. This would left me with 4 drafts and a final, all completed by November when I submitted my applications. For this piece I chose to write about the process of building the Tiny House. Through this I found the Tiny House to be a symbolic representation of my childhood and my constant need for creativity. It comes as a result of many years, building forts in the woods and Lincoln Logs in my room. Throughout the writing process I have met regularly with Chris to receive feedback on my drafts and to improve my central claims. To support this writing I have been reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Walden was written after Thoreau spent two years and two months living in a cabin on Walden pond in Massachusetts. It is an account of what he experienced in his time there and one of the first insights to minimalist living. Thoreau's writing has challenged me as well as allowed me to see ways I can be creative and descriptive with my words.
