THE WOODSI began my year in the Pilot eager to focus my English study around Wilderness Literature. The first essay I wrote was about constructing my tiny house in the woods. The next was about an interaction with a Grizzly, deep in the Canadian Wilderness. After that I chose to write about risk taking through outdoor activities. For my final piece of the year I chose to bring it all back to where my love for the outdoors began: the woods. The piece below details my experiences growing up in the woods and how I consider it to be home.
As I wrote the piece I met occasionally with Chris to improve the structure and message of the piece. The final draft below comes after work-shopping three previous drafts. While this was my quarter four writing project, I wrote the entire piece in only the last four weeks. I built a strict calendar to follow while working on drafts so the piece could be finished before final exhibition. I am happy to say I met this goal. |
